Suprise!

In my post yesterday I mention that we had some "plans" that I could not go into detail about...well that is because it was a suprise! One of my sweet friends, Jess, decided it would be nice to through our newly engaged friends Burton and Angela a little engagement dinner. We all met up at a fabulous little Mexican place called Munoz to host our festivities.  Burton  and Angela just thought they were meeting Jess and  Matt up there to eat but they had no idea that 20 of their friends and family would be there also to help them celebrate!  It was so much fun and we are so happy for them!
Here is the whole crew...no I didn't go by myself-the hubs just decided to be a social butterfly most of the evening and hang out on the other end of the table!

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! :)

Randomness...

Well, the hubs safely returned home last night from being out of town since Sunday afternoon and even though I am elated to have him back, it was kind of nice to have a little quiet time by myself!  Wrigley on the other hand was on guard the entire time!

Tomorrow will be 3 years since I have been with my current job! Wow, time flies whether you are having fun or not I guess.  :)  Before this job I was a retail girl always...through college and after. Then I realized that I needed a "big girl" job that would be more stable, much easier hours and a steady paycheck.  Well this one has certainly pointed me in the right direction, whether it is a keeper or not! :)  I work in the real estate department for a large healthcare service provider and when I started, I knew absolutely NOTHING about real estate, much less corporate real estate.  I just needed a job and was willing to learn whatever I needed to to make it.   Three years later, I have learned so much about not only real estate, but life lessons that will stay with me the rest of my life.  It is not always roses of course (I promise it is far from it actually), and to be honest I don't see myself here forever, but I am certainly grateful for having a job right now. Thanks job for giving me a paycheck for 3 years strong! :)

Really wishing we were back here right now...this was us on our honeymoon to Negril, Jamaica 2 years ago today. It was so much fun and we hope to make it back soon...Jamaica-we miss you!!!! :)
I told you I was completely random today! We have some "plans" tonight that I am not allowed to disclose quite yet but hopefully there will be a much better post tomorrow about plans tonight! :) Hope everyone's week is going well! Weekend is almost here!

Weekend In Review

This weekend started with some of our dear friends (and neighbors) Matt and Jess and Phoenix all coming over to grill out and chill at our house! As usual, the boys go in the livingroom watching whatever sports games is on or some dumb guy show/movie that they can never get away with watching with the ladies...

and the girls sit at the kitchen table, munching on our signature dips and gossiping about whatever and whoever (not really, well kind of but not in a bad way, well ok yes in that way but we are girls, what do you expect?)-I forgot to get a pic of the girls! The night usually turns out with the girls getting too loud and the guys getting frustrated b/c we are too loud! Either way it is always a good time had by all!

Saturday we went to my parents house and laid by the pool for a few hours.

We were supposed to go to a couples baby shower Saturday night but there was a change of plans when the baby, that was not due for another 2 weeks decided to come the day of the shower. Congrats by the way to Justin and Crystal on their beautiful baby boy!

So needless to say since the parents were preoccupied with their new addition, we chose to go ahead and celebrate our anniversary so that we wouldn't be rushed the next day! We went to FireBirds here in Birmingham and it was delicious! We exchanged our "cotton" gifts-that is what the traditional gift is supposed to be for your second year of marriage...I know we are the corny couple but it's fun and we enjoy it! :)

He got me the Vera Bradley large duffle and cosmetic bag...I have been wanting some Vera Bradley stuff for a while now and I finally got some!

And I got him some new kicks that he has wanted for a while now as well!

Overall it was a great weekend and I am hoping and praying that this week flies by! Have a great week everyone! :)

2 Years ago today...

I married the love of my life, my best friend, the future father of my children and the man I hope to grow old with one day!

Today is our wedding anniversary and I can't believe how time has flown by! We have been through so much these past few years (good and bad) and I truly don't know how I would have made it without you! You are the most loving, thoughtful, handsome man I have ever met and I am so proud to call you my husband! You love me for who I am (even though that is a handful in and of itself) and I can't thank you enough for choosing me to be your partner in life! I love you so much and look forward to 50+ more wonderful years together! :)

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY HONEY!!!!!!

Thankful

I know that I have already done 1 post for today, but I feel that this one is necessary.

I want to take a moment to thank this man for working out in this sweltering heat all day every day for the benefit of our small little family!

After coming back from lunch and battling the 102 degrees heat-yes I said it is officially 102 degrees here in Alabama-I have an all new appreciation for the men and women who work out in the elements for a living. My Pop has done it all of his life and to be quite honest, even up until now in his mid-late 50's he has always made it look easy (well not really easy but he is just not a man to complain about anything-ever, so therefore the heat was never anything that as children we could fully understand how miserable it could be!) I understand that a certain amount of it is your body getting acclimated to the weather but still-it is just too damn hot for anyone to be out in this heat unless you are in a larger body of water with a fruity drink with an umbrella in it!

All of this to say...Thank you Mitch (and Pop)for taking one for the team and beating the heat all summer and the cold all winter so that we can have a roof over our heads! We (Wrigley and I)and (mom) love you so much and really appreciate it more today than ever before!

Friday Finally...

I know it seems like I say this all the time but I am so glad that it is Friday and the weekend is here! We don't have anything major planned but I am just so happy to relax and hopefully sleep in a little bit , since we weren't able to do any of that this past weekend.

We do have one very exciting thing coming up and that is our 2nd wedding anniversary on Sunday! YAY! Honey, we made it another year together! We don't have any big plans, maybe just some nice food and some alone time with just the 2 of us! Sad news is that we found out yesterday evening that the hubs will be going out of town for work ALL next week and guess when he is leaving...you guessed it-Sunday (our anniversary for those of you who can't keep up)! It sucks but we will make it through...he is not going to be too far away from me, maybe an hour or so drive but Wrigley and I will still miss him like crazy while he is gone!

And just because I haven't put a picture of this handsome guy up in a while, I will leave you with this precious face....(sorry it's a little bit fuzzy-taken with my phone this morning)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Prayers Answered and Prayers Needed...

Does it ever seem like when it rains, it pours...one bad thing after another seems to all happen at the same time?! Well that is what happened at the Thompson house this week so far...

Monday night, when I was supposed to have my girls night, I get home from work to a very sick puppy with some serious stomach issues (I'll spare you the details). Well this is no quick and easy clean up with a Great Dane, as you can imagine, so I had already prepared myself for missing out on the fun, food and wine. Luckily, Phoenix came to my rescue and proved that she is a true friend b/c she was willingly helping me clean up after my sick pup so that I could still make girls night! Thanks again Phoenix, I def owe you one! :) We ended up having a lot of fun and some much needed relaxation with my girls!

The other great news (not!)was that our washing machine decided to go out this week. We were praying that we would not have to buy a new one b/c that is definitely not in the budget for this month. Then Pop came to our rescue (just realized I have a lot of people coming to my rescue lately) last night and fixed our washing machine, meaning that we don't have to buy a new one! Yay!!!! Thank the Lord (and pop)!!!!

Thanks Pop, you are truly a God send (even if you didn't fix my washing machine you still would be)! I love you so much! :)

I do have a prayer request though and I need all the prayers we can get...

Without getting into too much details (I dont' know how much the family wishes to tell), we have a dear sweet couple who have been friends of ours for years that are expecting their first baby in December. They went Monday for the ultrasound to determine the sex of the baby (it's a boy!) and the doctors discovered some sort of abnormality/defect with the baby's heart. They are scheduled to go see a specialist some time this week for more information and hopefully get some better news. Please keep them in your prayers!

Come Monday...

Well it's another Monday and I am already wishing for the weekend(not a good way to start off the week b/c it just makes the week that much longer)! There maybe be one good reason for me wanting the weekend to get here quicker and thats because the hubs and I will be celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary! So excited!

Speaking of weddings...

Saturday Jordan and Matt tied the knot. Jordan is one of my zumba buddies and I just love her to pieces! She is so much fun to be around and I am so glad that we have been able to get closer over the last few months! Congrats you guys!

The hubs and I

Me with the beautiful bride

Me and Haley (one of my fav girls ever)!

Mitch and Ty (his partner in crime for the evening) :)

Sunday was not a very fun day...we laid new sod (in the rain) in our backyard. My parents came into a ridiculous amount of new sod b/c Trugreen sprayed the wrong chemical on their yard and they had to replace it. My mom is NOT a fan anymore! Well when they replaced it it was way more sod than the parents needed so we decided to take full advantage and redo some of the dead spots in our yard. We'll just put it this way, the hubs was not his usual happy go lucky, smiley self after 2 days of laying sod in this Alabama heat...which is why there are no pictures of the work in progress-there was no humor! :)

Tonight I am looking forward to a little impromptu girls night with some of my favorite girls! Our men folk are playing a late afternoon round of golf and what better time to sip on some wine, eat some yummy food (thanks Jess) and have some much needed girl talk! Hopefully some fun pictures will follow soon! I hope everyone is having a good Monday! :)

Lesson of the day...

I was not planning on blogging today but I have been left no other choice.

A week or so ago the hubs and I were at the local thrift store scoping everything out and came across this super cute wine cabinet.

Granted, it needed a little bit of TLC, some paint and new hardware but it was only, get this $40! Now, this was in between pay periods and we were trying to be responsible and spend what money we had wisely. (I know it was not that much but we are broke married folks) :) So we decided that we would come back later and if it was there, it was meant to be and if not, then we just weren't supposed to have it.

Well, the sweet hubs decided to go back up there on Monday (his off day) and see if it was still there...well as you guessed it, it was not meant to be. I was a little sad b/c I could really see it in our home looking all cute after we finished it's makeover but oh well, moving on. Today, I was browsing the web (instead of working which is what I excel at these days):) casually looking for wine cabinets and this is what I come across...

Yep , you guessed it, the cabinet that we saw a few weeks ago at the thrift store only it was $899!!!! WHAT?! And get this, it was at Walmart of all places-I didn't even think Walmart carried anything that was that expensive! So basically by us trying to be responsible we actually got screwed out of a super cute wine cabinet! Really?! I digress...

So moral of the story...screw trying to be smart, if you see something that you like (especailly at the thrift store) buy it! :)

Weddings, Birthdays, and Engagements!

Wow! It seems as though there is so much stuff going on lately that I am barely hanging on! This weekend was packed with celebrations!

Friday night we spent sitting on the couch and relaxing-prepping for the next 2 days if we are being honest! :)
Saturday this beautiful bride married her prince charming! (I didn't get a good picture of the bride and groom together-stupid me)!

The wedding was at Aldridge Gardens here in Hoover, Al and was absolutely wonderful! We were all a little nervous about the thunderstorms but the skies finally cleared and we had the best time!

Jess and I on our way to the wedding (def blog-worthy photo if I do say so myself)

Mr. and Mrs Caffey

Matt and Mitch with the handsome groom

All the ladies (Andrea, me, Ashley, Jess, Maria, Phoenix and Angela)

Ashley and Austin-we are so happy for you guys and are so glad that we got to witness such a wonderful, true love that you 2 share! We wish you many years of happiness and joy! :)

Sunday was Hunter's 6th birthday party at Gardendale Splash Pad. It was a scorcher but the kids had a blast! The adults mainly hung out under the pavilion to try and catch a breeze! I think a few of us even contemplated jumping in the water fully clothed at one point! It was a great party though! Happy Birthday Hunter!

Aunt and Uncle

Lastly, I want to congratulate this wonderful couple on their engagement! They are absolutely adorable and will def have some curly haired babies one day! Angela and Matt-we love you and couldn't be happier for you if we tried! We can't wait to be apart of this journey with you guys!

Happy Birthdays!!!

Two of my very favorite people in the world are celebrating their birthdays today!

First, our sweet nephew Hunter who turns 6 today! You are truly a blessing to your Uncle Mitch and Aunt Amanda and we love you so much! We hope that you have an amazing birthday and we can't wait to come play with you at your birthday party on Sunday(pictures to follow)!

Second, one of the bestests (def don't think that is a word but oh well) friends a girl could ever ask for, Tiffany! (you know how old you are, so I won't advertise that for you!) You are without a doubt one of the sweetest, most generous, fun, and thoughtful women I have ever known and I cherish our friendship so much! You are a great friend, an amazing matron of honor, the mom that I hope to be one day, my blog motivation, and a woman that I hope to grow old with one day watching our children play together! I miss you so much and hope that you have the best birthday!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU BOTH!!!!!

Memphis-Style Coleslaw Recipe

I mentioned in my last post that I experimented with a new recipe and I wanted to share it with you guys! It was so good, both on a hot dog and just by itself! The hubs even said that it wasn't bad and he is NOT a fan of any sort of coleslaw! I will def be making this recipe again real soon at the Thompson house!

1C mayo
2Tbsp Dijon or whole grain mustard
2Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2Tbsp sugar
1/2 heaping tsp Kosher salt
1Tbsp grated onion
2-2 1/2 tsp celery seed (absolutely essential for classic coleslaw flavor)
1 16-oz bag shredded cabbage with carrots (stay away from the very fine shreds b/c they'll get too soggy)
1/2 minced green bell pepper
1 carrot, peeled and grated (you don't have to add this if you get the cabbage with the carrots in it-that is usually plenty)

Combine mayo, mustard vinegar, salt, onion and celery seed. In a large bowl, combine shredded cabbage, carrots and green bell pepper. Toss with dressing and refrigerate for at least 2-3 hours and up to about 3 days. Enjoy!

4th of July Weekend Recap

Our weekend was wonderful!! Friday night kicked off the weekend great with a date with the hubs to eat Mexican (my fav) and then to run a few errands. No pics-not that exciting. :)

Saturday was prep day for the 4th-grocery shopping and making some delicious Memphis Cole Slaw (recipe coming soon)to go with the feast my parents had prepared for the next day! Saturday night we went to our friends Shane and Andrea's house to cook out and watch the UFC fight. I didn't take any pictures but we had a lot of fun just hanging out with everyone! :)

Sunday was the big day-we got up fairly early and headed on over to my parents house, which is where it seems we always go when it comes to summertime festivities! We hung out by the pool all day, grilled out some yummy food, and ended the evening with a fireworks show (which btw, Wrigley was not a fan of)!

Some of the crew

Jess and Matt, I mean Nick :) He stood as a good replacement since I couldn't locate Matt (they're twins by the way)!

Wrigley by the way was not a fan of the pool/swimming thing as you can tell

but he did enjoy laying out in the sun...

He was exhausted and still as of today (3 days later)will not wake up for more than a few minutes just to eat!

The whole fam watching the fireworks

Monday we were both off of work, which rarely happens now a days and we decided to go spend some time with our bro and sis in law and our nephews!

Hunter and Uncle Mitch "surfing"

Cuddling with Cohen

I have to say it really was an amazing weekend and I am so glad that I got to spend it with all of my friends and family (well minus a few dear friends-miss you and love you Tiffy and Ash)! Now it's back to the grind again and I am already looking forward to the jam-packed weekend we have coming up with a wedding and a birthday party! :)
